5th Istanbul Design Biennial
Empathy Revisited:
Designs for more than one


Not quite a finissage! is a day-long event which partially marks closure while opening new works to the public. The focuses on the research projects displayed in the Library of Land and Sea but will also encompass many surprises reflecting the spirit of this edition. Co-hosted with the Design Museum and Het Nieuwe Instituut and in collaboration with calling, the event will be broadcast online, on Saturday, 24 April. It  comprises talks, walks, performances and screenings from an international line-up of designers and artists including Dele Adeyemo, Ibiye Camp and Dámaso Randulfe, Black Athena Collective, Counterspace, Linda Schilling Cuellar, Dansbana!, Sophie Krier & Eric Wong, Aslıhan Demirtaş, FRAUD, Ilana Harris-Babou, Ayşenaz Toker and Merve Tuna, Anna Puigjaner – MAIO & Alina Abouelenin, BUREAU, Pelin Tan & Vivien Sansour & Luigi Coppola, Orkan Telhan & elii, theOtherDada, TiriLab, Aslı Uludağ.

“Empathy Revisited” podcast series Season 2 Episode #9: TiriLab
This episode features the talk held between the Istanbul Design Biennial director Deniz Ova and Christina Serifi and Juan Chacón, the founders of TiriLab, an initiative that explores cultural heritage and rural communities. The conversation primarily stresses the duo’s research project titled Sattelite Kitchens they have participated the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial with. The project evolves around the outdoor kitchens, constructed and organised mostly by women in the Thesprotia region in Greece and which are used as a space of assembly, resistance, empowerment and care.
